The famous horror video game, Resident Evil, has been adapted into movies, comic books, and even a Netflix series. The sequencing of each game can be somewhat confusing, especially for people unfamiliar with the Resident Evil franchise, given that there are 13 different games covering different timelines. Additionally, there have been three essential remakes – and another one, Resident Evil 4, for 2023.

How to Play Resident Evil Games in Chronological Order

If you only want to get the basic story, you only need to play 13 of the 24 games in the Resident Evil series. The majority of the series’ lore is found in these twelve games, and each of the side games is in some manner related to them. Here is a list of all 13 essential Resident Evil titles (including remakes) that are easily playable and accessible in chronological order.

  1. Resident Evil 0
  2. Resident Evil
  3. Resident Evil 3 (First Half)
  4. Resident Evil 2
  5. Resident Evil 3 (Second Half)
  6. Resident Evil: Code Veronica
  7. Resident Evil 4
  8. Resident Evil: Revelations
  9. Resident Evil 5
  10. Resident Evil: Revelations 2
  11. Resident Evil 6
  12. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
  13. Resident Evil Village

The Remakes Dilemma: Should I Play?

It is worthwhile to play the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. Although they both closely adhere to the originals, there are enough differences to question whether the remakes have taken their place. We recommend playing all of them, including Resident Evil 4 Remake, which is set for 2023.
