Spider-Man 2, much like the first game, is loaded with some of the most iconic baddies in the history of Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Every supervillain in Spider-Man 2 has something unique going for them that makes none of their appearances particularly bad, but some certainly hold more significance than others.
This ranking of every supervillain in Spider-Man 2 will focus on the major supervillains with boss fights throughout the game and their impact on the story. Smaller appearances like Tombstone and Prowler, characters that aren’t even technically supervillains in this story, won’t be covered. There also will be some spoilers present here, which is impossible to avoid per the nature of even talking about some of these villains being a spoiler within itself. Fair warning.
7. Mysterio
Mysterio’s appearance in Spider-Man 2 is admittedly less than what may be expected from his character. Technically, it does have a lot of the signature traits of his character and abilities, it’s just the character himself doesn’t come across as particularly interesting, sadly.
7. Scream
Spider-Man 2 is loaded to the brim with Symbiote chaos, resulting in the first major appearance of the supervillain Scream outside of the comics, which is a pretty huge deal for fans of all things Symbiotes in the Marvel world. In this game, it doesn’t manifest in anything too major other than a boss fight and an emotional moment between Peter Parker and Mary Jane. Still, it opens up the possibility of so many more Symbiote characters appearing in the future besides the expected Venom and Carnage.
6. Sandman
Flint Marko opens up the game and delivers a fun beginning boss fight that should tickle diehard Spider-Man fans and show off how impressive this game looks running on the PS5. It leaves a strong first impression, and Flint is present in enough of the game moving forward to warrant a solid placement on this list, but he’s really just the tip of the iceberg.
5. Mr. Negative
Mr. Negative was the major supervillain leading the pack back in the original Spider-Man, and thus, naturally, is a major factor in this game after escaping The Raft. Obviously, since he’s not the primary antagonist in this title, he isn’t quite as important as many of the higher names on this list, but this is still the killer of Miles Morales’ father and heavily motivates the story in that way.
4. Cletus Kasady
The sociopath known in the game as The Flame and otherwise known to comics fans as the primary host of the Carnage Symbiote admittedly only has a brief onscreen appearance in Spider-Man 2. Still, his presence is a major reveal with huge implications for what’s coming next. Not much else will be written here in the interest of avoiding spoilers, but fans seeing Cletus will certainly be buzzing with the possibilities of where things are going now that he has what he was looking for.
3. The Lizard
The iteration of Kurt Connors’ Lizard in Spider-Man 2 is one of the most menacing that fans have ever seen. Adding to his ferocious appearance and the fact that he’s one of the best boss fights in the game, Peter’s connection to Connors, something that’s been developing since the first game, makes the fights and the character development in Spider-Man 2 that much more impactful.
2. Venom
Venom was the main supervillain hyped up and marketed prior to the release of Spider-Man 2. Questions of who possesses the Venom Symbiote in the game and where the character will fall on the anti-hero to villain spectrum had fans teeming with excitement and theories, analyzing every little piece of content leading up to the game’s launch. Venom’s status as an anti-hero discourages him from placing at the top of a supervillain ranking. However, his character is still very compelling here and more than a little mischievous.
1. Kraven the Hunter
Kraven the Huter comes across as evil and intimidating in Spider-Man 2, as he often has in some of his most legendary comic appearances of the past, like Kraven’s Last Hunt. He establishes himself early on as someone to be feared by dispatching other iconic and powerful Spider-Man villains, and his actions only get more dreadful from there. He makes his mark in this game, and his role is undoubtedly one that will be talked about and remembered for some time.
