We’re constantly joking about certain titles coming to some of the most unexpected platforms or devices out there. In 2025, players are still waiting for a fully playable version of Skyrim to reach our Roombas, for instance. But while we wait for that, Github user ading2210 has created a playable version of the classic Doom inside a PDF file. Yes, you read that right. You can run the classic FPS game in a document without the need for a fancy console or controller.
Shared first by Culture Crave on X, the playable version of classic Doom on PDF was created by user ading2210, and you can access it by clicking on this link. When you boot up the game, you’ll see the iconic menu with the usual options to start your adventure. Below, you’ll see the controls, which aren’t that hard to use. The creator of this port even added an option to play with your keyboard only, and after trying it for a while, it runs smoothly.
Like user GOD OF PS 5 up there, you might also be asking yourself, “Why?” Well, why not? The fact that someone is able to port a whole game into a document is wild, but it isn’t the craziest story involving Doom.
Classic Doom on PDF is just one of the stories involving an out-of-the-ordinary platform that runs this game. A few years ago, someone was able to make it run on a pregnancy test. And someone else was able to run it on a calculator. The former sounds a bit more impressive, though. Talk about double unexpected surprises, am I right?
In any case, it’s exciting to see classic Doom still being relevant today and now even being in what is the most accessible platform for everyone: PDF. Will this classic shooter reach another platform in the future? Only time will tell, but as long as there are creative people, such as ading2210, we’ll certainly see Doom in other places.
