Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, an upcoming stage play, will also be getting an official book release. Following 19 years after the events of the first seven books, the story features Harry and his son Albus being forced to face events from Harry’s past. The story comes from a collaboration of author J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany. The stage play will occur in two parts, similar to how the seventh movie was split into halves.
As for the book itself, the published version of Harry Potter’s eighth story is not actually a novel, as the previous books have been. Rather, it is the script from the stage play–the Special Rehearsal Edition. Rowling has received pleas from a large number of fans who won’t be able to see the play in London to publish it in book format. Those wishes will be granted soon after the show goes on July 30, 2016. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be released both in hardback and digital copies.
A Collector’s Edition will also be published at a later date though no details on this new version have been given as of yet. And while the book may not be a novel, it is the true, official continuation of the Harry Potter fiction, and fans will definitely not want to miss out on the latest adventure.
