Amazon’s forthcoming Lord of the Rings series has been renewed for a second season, according to Deadline. This is a surprising move considering that the first season is still in pre-production. However, this may be down to the popularity of the franchise, meaning the show will be instantly bankable for the studio.

We have very little information on the project but here are big names attached. Therefore, it is clear that the company have a lot of faith in the series. So, it is safe to assume that Amazon is going all-in with Lord of the Rings.

But, what do we actually know about the upcoming show? Let’s take a look!

Lord of the Rings Shines With Star Power

Firstly, the story will be taking place before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring. While it is not clear whether that means it will be set between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings is unclear. At this point in time, this is left to interpretation. However, the official Twitter account hints at a focus on the second age so we may be going further back. This would explore facets of lore we are yet to see on screen. This is an exciting prospect indeed.

Secondly, backing up the series are some big figures in the film and TV industry. With writers JD Payne and Patrick McKay developing the series and J.A. Bayona set to direct several episodes, Amazon is bringing their A-game to the show. Also joining as a consulting producer is Game of Thrones alum Bryan Cogman.

Finally, the casting includes some strong figures in front of the camera. Will Poulter, Markella Kavenagh and Joseph Mawle have been cast in the Lord of the Rings series.

Aside from some other credits, there is little else known about the series. So, stay tuned for more info as it’s released.

Looking forward to Amazon’s Lord of the Rings? Surprised at the early renewal? Let us know in the comments!
