Actress Amber Heard has sounded off regarding ex-husband Johnny Depp as she prepares to meet him in court on Monday for a defamation trial. Depp, 58, is suing his ex-wife Heard, 35, for defamation due to an op-ed from 2018 published in The Washington Post in which Heard claimed to have been physically abused by her husband of two years. Depp has maintained his innocence and been vocal about considering himself a victim of cancel-culture. The allegations against Depp have led to him losing major roles, including his role as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts series. Depp was replaced by Mads Mikkelsen in the latest installment, The Secrets of Dumbledore.
Amber Heard Sounds Off on Defamation Suit
Heard took to Instagram to address the upcoming lawsuit and her feelings towards Depp. She also announced she’d be taking time off social media.
“I’m going to go offline for the next several weeks. As you may know, I’ll be in Virginia, where I face my ex-husband Johnny Depp in court. Johnny is suing me for an op-ed I wrote in The Washington Post, in which I recounted my experience of violence and domestic abuse. I never named him, rather I wrote about the price women pay for speaking out against men in power. I continue to pay that price, but hopefully when this case concludes, I can move on and so can Johnny. I have always maintained a love for Johnny and it brings me great pain to have to live out the details of our past life together in front of the world. At this time, I recognize the ongoing support I’ve been fortunate to receive throughout these years, and in these coming weeks I will be leaning on it more than ever. With love always, A.”
Johnny Depp Fans Stand Against Amber Heard
While denying an accuser’s claims is unpopular, the hashtag #JusticeForJohnnyDepp frequently trends on Twitter. Many of Depp’s fans are against Heard, and they’ve even urged Warner Bros. to remove her from Aquaman 2, where she plays Aquaman’s counterpart Mera. Depp is insistent that Heard’s claims are false. Time will tell how a judge feels about the matter.
Despite his legal issues, Depp is still securing roles. Recently he was cast as King Louis XV in an untitled film.
