Amber Rose is the latest celebrity to push for Tory Lanez‘s prison release. The model shared a petition on her Instagram Story urging California Governor Gavin Newsom to pardon the Canadian rapper (whose real name is Daystar Peterson) for his involvement in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting. Her support for Lanez comes days after he was stabbed in prison 14 times by another inmate.
Amber Rose Urges California Governor to ‘Free’ Tory Lanez
“FREE TORY!!!” Amber Rose wrote alongside a link to a Change.org petition calling for Tory Lanez’s prison release. “He’s innocent his DNA WAS NOT ON THE GUN AT ALL!!! Sign now!”
The petition, which has over 250,000 signatures, asks Governor Newsom to reopen the 2020 Megan Thee Stallion shooting case. It claims Lanez did not deserve to get a 10-year prison sentence since there was a lack of “conclusive physical evidence” proving he was the one who pulled the trigger. It lists three inconsistencies supposedly found in the case. The first was that Lanez’s DNA was not found on the gun that shot Stallion. It also questions why only Lanez’s DNA was tested when gun residue was said to have been found on both him and Megan Thee Stallion’s former best friend, Kelsey Harris. Last, it says eyewitness accounts were “ignored or suppressed” to fit the “prosecution’s narrative.”
The page goes on to further blame the incident on Harris by mentioning the bombshell update made by her bodyguard, Bradley James. According to XXL Magazine, Lanez’s legal team, Unite the People, recently hosted a press conference, during which they revealed that James blames Harris for the shooting. James supposedly said that Harris fired the gun at Stallion three times, which led Lanez to intervene. After the rapper tried knocking the weapon out of her hand, it fell and went off two more times before hitting the ground.
Megan Thee Stallion has since denied these claims. Her attorney, Alex Spiro, told XXL that Tory Lanez shot her and that his connection to the case was already “resolved in the court of law.”

Other Artists Shared the Petition
Despite Stallion insisting that Tory Lanez is guilty, the petition calling for the rapper’s prison release has continued gaining traction. Many of his fans have circulated the petition on social media in an attempt to get his case reopened. Several celebrities have brought attention to it as well. Apart from Amber Rose, Drake has also posted a link to the petition on Instagram. “@torylanez come home soon,” he wrote alongside his post. Other rappers like Ty Dolla Sign and Kodak Black have also shown support for Lanez by sharing the petition. Many people online have criticized these artists for seemingly letting their personal feelings of Lanez sway their view of the case.
Megan Thee Stallion’s shooting incident happened in July 2020 after she and Lanez left one of Kylie Jenner’s parties. The former couple was supposedly arguing when Lanez got so heated he pulled a gun on Stallion. In August 2023, Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Although his exact release date is uncertain, it seems he’ll remain in jail until 2033.
