The closer we get to the season seven premiere of The Walking Dead, the more gifts AMC keeps handing out to fuel the anticipation. This time, they have shown a three and a half minute teaser entitled, “Right Hand Man.”
After months of speculating which one of our favorite characters Negan killed with his barb-wire bat, Lucille, AMC has put us slightly out of our misery with this new clip. Rick Grimes is alive, everyone, but he is not well. The footage shows a close up of Rick with a smear of blood on the right side of his face, visibly in shock after the brutal death of one of the other characters. The background audio is nearly silent, the only sounds coming from some of the characters crying, and the only dialogue happening between Rick and Negan.
Rick tries to sound a lot tougher than he looks as he makes eye contact with Negan and vows, “I’m going to kill you…Not today, not tomorrow, but I’m going to kill you.” Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is just as stone-faced and doesn’t seem to be shaking in his boots despite Rick’s serious declaration. In fact, Negan boasts how having a right-hand man is important, and mockingly implies that he may have just killed Rick’s right hand. Then, in perhaps the utmost display of disrespect, Negan drags Rick Grimes across the gravel and tosses him into the RV, which is still standing nearby. “Right Hand Man” is definitely setting the tone for when The Walking Dead returns.
Before the season seven premiere, however, don’t forget to tune into AMC’s special, The Walking Dead: Journey So Far this Sunday, October 16 at 9pm EST. The special will take long-time fans, as well as series newcomers through the show’s history and the dynamic character relationships that have formed over the last six years. It is a trip down memory lane that will lead up to the cliffhanger in the season six finale, Last Day on Earth.
The Walking Dead season seven will air on October 23. The premiere episode is entitled, “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be.”
