Orphan Black: Echoes finally has a concrete premiere date, and it’s not far off. A spinoff of the original Orphan Black, the new AMC series will star Krysten Ritter in the lead role as Lucy, a woman with a mysterious past struggling to untangle her identity in a sci-fi thriller world where scientific manipulation of human beings is possible, and clones are commonplace. Anna Fishko wrote the series, with Orphan Black co-creator John Fawcett acting as director and David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg returning from the original series to co-executive produce the new spinoff.
‘Orphan Black: Echoes’ Will Come to AMC+ This Summer
Running between 2013 and 2017, Orphan Black was a sci-fi thriller series that followed Sarah Manning (Tatiana Maslany), a con artist who discovers that she’s a clone, a result of illegal human experimentation by a movement called Neolution. The five-season series followed Sarah’s attempts to find her “sister clones” while also keeping herself and her daughter Kira (Skyler Wexler) out of the hands of the Dyad Institute and the Proletheans, a religious movement that views clones as abominations.
Orphan Black: Echoes will take place in the same universe as the original series, just in the near future, set in 2052. Orphan Black: Echoes will center around Lucy (Krysten Ritter), a woman who’s trying to find her place in the world, along with a group of women all trying to untangle their identity. Keely Hawes will star as an adult version of Kira, now a full-fledged scientist married to neuroscientist Dr. Eleanor Miller (Rya Kihlstedt) and mother to Lucas (Jaeden Noel). All ten episodes of the spinoff series were dropped to Australian audiences in November 2023, but domestic audiences will be able to catch them on AMC, AMC+, and BBC America in June 2024.
John Fawcett, a co-creator of the original Orphan Black, served as director and executive producer for Orphan Black: Echoes, along with David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Nick Nantell, Kerry Appleyard, and Katie O’Connell Marsh.
All five seasons of Orphan Black are available to stream on AMC+. Orphan Black: Echoes currently has a premiere date of June 2024.
