Katy Perry’s joke at the last auditions hurt one of the contestants. American Idol contestant Sarah Beth bore the brunt of Katy’s disapproval when the AI judge listened to the young woman. Afterward, Sarah took to her social media to share her feelings about the joke made at her expense. Read on to find out what she said.
Sarah Beth Calls Katy Perry’s joke on American Idol Hurtful
American Idol contestant Sarah Beth is not holding back on how she felt during her audition. The mother of three took to TikTok, where she called out Katy Perry for her insensitive comments.
Sarah reflected on what turned out to be an awkward moment with judge Katy Perry during her audition. Earlier this month, the 25-year-old auditioned on the music competition show.
During Sarah’s introduction, the judges seemed shocked to learn she was 25. Katy even noted that the singer looked 16. When Sarah told the judges that she was a mother of three, Katy stood up, fanning herself in apparent shock.
“If Katy lays on the table, I think I’m going to pass out,” the visibly nervous Sarah said.
“Honey, you’ve been laying on the table too much,” Katy quipped in the clip, referencing the young mother’s family.
Shortly after the audition aired, Sarah posted a video to her TikTok account to comment on Katy Perry’s joke, saying it “wasn’t super kind.”
“It was embarrassing to have that on TV, and it was hurtful and that’s that,” Sarah said.
She added that she finds “women supporting and uplifting other women” cool and frowned at shaming mom.
The aspiring talent concluded her video with a message to young moms. She thanked them for their support and told them to keep loving their kids. “Nobody deserves to feel crappy about that,” Sarah reiterated.

Sarah Beth Got A Pass To The Next Stage
During Sarah Beth’s audition, she admitted that she wasn’t sure if being on Idol was her “dream.” The comment came in response to Katy’s question about the young mother’s dream. Katy asked her to leave if American Idol wasn’t her dream.
Meanwhile, Sarah answered, saying she was still processing and didn’t know the answer to that.
A visibly nervous Sarah then performed, and in another of Katy Perry’s jokes, she called the animated contestant “a comic strip character come to life.”
Judge Luke Bryan was all for the singer’s nervous energy, voting her through to Hollywood. However, Lionel Richie was concerned that Sarah didn’t seem to want it enough and voted no.
On the other hand, Katy appeared to be on the fence but ultimately said, “Yeah, I guess? Why not?”
Katy Perry’s joke was admittedly hurtful, considering she is a mom herself. Hopefully, Katy will do the right thing and apologize to Sarah. Nevertheless, Katy Perry’s joke has led to an increased interest in the outcome of American Idol contestant Sarah Beth.
