An MMO Crossover is Coming to FFXIV 7.1 in November

When MMOs collide

Adventure isn’t over, my esteemed Warriors of Light. This weekend, Naoki Yoshida and his team unveiled the next major patch coming to FFXIV Dawntrail, which is 7.1, titled “Crossroads.” Veterans of the MMO already know what to expect. We’ll get a new MSQ, dungeon, trial, unreal trial, and, most importantly, a brand-new raid series for FFXIV, which is doing a crossover with FFXI. That’s right, the two MMOs of this franchise are colliding in a set of raids never seen before. So, start increasing that item level, get your jobs up to speed, and prepare for the next grand adventure.

In case you missed the live letter for FFXIV patch 7.1, “Crossroads,” we’ve attached the video above. However, it’s only in Japanese, so keep that in mind. Still, there are many interesting features coming to this major patch, such as the following:

  • New MSQ
  • New Dungeon
  • New Trial
  • New Unreal Trial
  • New Alliance Raid Series (Echoes of Vana’diel/FFXI Crossover)
  • Chaotic Alliance Raid (Cloud of Darkness)
  • New Ultimate Raid (Futures Rewritten)
  • New Custom Deliveries
  • New Allied Society Quests
  • More Hildribrand Quests

Beyond that, FFXIV is still working on making a more solo-oriented experience in the MMO, with non-MSQ dungeons getting Duty Support, with Halatali being the first. Also, if you want to play the 7.0 story again, you can find it now in the New Game+ menu.

However, the big takeaway here is everything coming to the Alliance Raid side. First, we have the crossover between Final Fantasy 11 and 14. Both of these MMOs have stood strong throughout the years, and while the latter is more famous, that doesn’t mean the eleventh installment is forgotten. Yet, players will finally experience some of the world of that MMO without switching to another game. Finally, the Alliance Raid content is getting its first challenging mode in the form of Chaotic Alliance Raid, starting with everyone’s not-so-favorite Cloud of Darkness. If you thought managing a party of eight was difficult, wait until you try to coordinate 24 people.

Overall, patch 7.1, “Crossroads,” looks as packed as ever and is the perfect excuse to return to FFXIV. Since the update is launching sometime in November, you have plenty of time to prepare your jobs and items before the next chapter for our Warriors of Light arrives.
