Analysts Predict GTA 6 Will Make Over a Billion Dollars Even Before Its Release Date

Forget the competition, it will blow out the water itself.

A new report suggests that Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) could generate $1 billion in pre-orders before Rockstar even announces its release date for later this year. According to DFC Intelligence, the highly anticipated game is also expected to bring in $3.2 billion in revenue within its first year on the market. If accurate, these figures would make GTA 6 the single most financially successful video game launches in history.

The report, published in the Financial Times, highlights the potential for GTA 6 to surpass the sales of its predecessor, GTA 5, which launched in 2013, and since then has been re-released on almost every other platform available. While Rockstar Games has not confirmed an official release date, analysts are predicting an October 2025 launch given the company’s history of fall releases for major titles, but it could easily move into November.

The first trailer for GTA 6, released in December 2023, quickly became one of the most-watched gaming videos on YouTube. Fans have been dissecting the footage like detectives that would put Sherlock to shame. Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, have remained tight-lipped about the game’s release date.

In the interview, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed the expectations surrounding GTA 6. While he avoided making direct claims about the game’s success, Zelnick acknowledged the unreal levels of anticipation:

I never claim victory before it occurs. That said, I think Rockstar Games will once again deliver something absolutely phenomenal. Certainly, the anticipation is high.

Zelnick also commented on the state of the gaming industry, suggesting that the current console generation still has room for growth:

It’s way too early to believe that this [console] generation is maturing or has reached its apex. A hit coming from one company tends to benefit the entire industry.

The $1 billion pre-order projection for GTA 6 highlights the scale of the game’s fanbase and the level of interest it has generated. If the estimates are accurate, GTA 6 could set new benchmarks for pre-launch sales in the entire entertainment industry.

While the financial success of the game seems likely, questions remain about how the game will be received by players and critics. For now, fans are left waiting for more details, including confirmation of the release date and additional gameplay information for GTA 6.
