Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the former Duke of York, was arrested today on his 66th birthday following a dramatic police raid at his Sandringham home. Thames Valley Police confirmed he is in custody on suspicion of misconduct in public office, amid a widening investigation linked to the Jeffrey Epstein files. Authorities are also searching his former Windsor residence, Royal Lodge, while the nation watches closely.

Andrew Arrested Over Alleged Misconduct

Police arrived at Wood Farm, Sandringham, just after 8 am in six unmarked vehicles, according to the Daily Mail. Onlookers reported that the officers “appeared to be police officers” and that one carried a police-issued laptop. A convoy of vehicles, including two royal Land Rovers, was photographed leaving the estate shortly before Andrew’s arrest was officially confirmed at 10:08 am.

Thames Valley Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said: “Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office. It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence. We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.”

Andrew is alleged to have shared sensitive information with Epstein, including reports of official trade visits and investment opportunities. Emails suggest he forwarded a confidential brief on Afghanistan investment opportunities, as well as reports on visits to Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Singapore. He denies any wrongdoing.

Royal Family Responds as Investigation Continues

Per BBC, King Charles, who was not informed before the arrest, said: “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office… Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.”

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer echoed this sentiment, asserting: “One of the core principles in our system is that everybody is equal under the law, and nobody is above the law, and it is really important that is applied across the board.”

Several UK police forces, including the Met, Essex, Surrey, and Norfolk Constabulary, are assessing related allegations of sex trafficking and misconduct. The Met has begun “initial inquiries” into former close protection officers assigned to Andrew.

Social media erupted following the arrest. Some users expressed disbelief on Reddit: “Wow. I never thought I’d see it. Interesting times!” (u/lucillep). Others offered sarcastic celebration: “Glorious. Happy Birthday, Andrew lol.”

Skeptics questioned the timing: “Police had evidence for at least 10 years. Why are they arresting him now? Is that just for a show?.” Some predicted the narrative: “He’ll be released & they’ll use this whole saga to say ‘see, we did actually arrest him! He’s not above the law!’”. Concerns for his safety were also voiced, citing Jeffery Epstein‘s suicidal death: “Do not let him commit suicide suddenly.”

Andrew remains in custody, with his exact location undisclosed.
