Regardless of how far we can move forward as the human race, there will always some reason be room for racism. Just recently, a woman berated a student going home after school just for his skin color. However, racism can also extend to the governing systems that control aspects of local communities. Fortunately, one Springfield, Ohio, resident stood up for what they call the ‘Haitian Immigrant Crisis’ at a town hall meeting.

A resident of Springfield, Ohio addresses the town’s Haitian immigrant “crisis” with an expert level of sardonic wit

A Reddit user named thebestdaysofmyflerm posted the video of a town hall meeting that must have just addressed an issue concerning the Haitian immigrant population. That’s when a woman kindly stood up and gave her opinion on the subject. However, as she talks, you begin to realize that she’s being completely sarcastic about finding Haitian immigrants to be a nuisance to the community.

She talks about how the Haitian community has purchased dilapidated homes, refurbished them, and helped create nicer homes for the area, and now, it’s caused the town’s property taxes to rise. She also goes into detail about how their businesses generate incredible tax revenue for the city.

People don’t notice that she’s being sarcastic until she mentions that this is unacceptable because she has ‘main character’ syndrome and only wants these benefits to affect her exclusively.

“Now we have new businesses in town generating more tax revenue for our city and county. I have a good paying job with great benefits. But because I have main character syndrome and the entire world should revolve around me, I want all the exorbitant benefits that some of these Haitian immigrants get, which is $292 for Snap, aka Food Stamps, and $363 in cash per month for a single adult. Everyone knows that $655 per month lets you live like a millionaire in Springfield.”

Commenters immediately defend her words, citing that considering her outfit, no one should have even tried her,

“Never underestimate the clever girl in a cardigan.”

Hopefully, the issues she stood for are being looked into carefully. If not, we will likely see her at the podium again soon.
