Apex Legends is coming up on yet another major season, the season of Defiance as it’s aptly named. Prior to today, the team unveiled its newest legend Mad Maggie! Sentenced to trial by combat (a sentence served in the Apex Games to no surprise), Maggie’s about to bring something fierce to the games, though more on that later. With the Defiance season set to drop on February 8, fans of the game are also excited to see what else is coming with the new season. Today, the team is delivering. Respawn has unveiled the newest gameplay trailer for Apex Legends, debuting a new mode, more of Mad Maggie, along with cosmetics making their way to Apex Legends this season. Check out the official trailer below.
First of all, the Defiance season of Apex Legends brings with it a brand new mode in Control. For the first time in Apex Legends, two teams of nine will fight for control over three territories. Think Domination in games like Call of Duty, only with Apex Legends players. Whoever scores the most points while keeping their zones wins. It’s your standard fare, but with the Apex Legends twist that I could honestly forsee working. Sure, it strays from that battle royale formula we’re used to, but considering it’s a limited-time mode and the main game is still the focus, it’s good to see.
Beyond a new mode though, Mad Maggie and changes to Olympus are underway. Starting off with our girl, Maggie brings some speed and power to the Apex Games. Starting with her passive ability, Warlord’s Ire, she moves faster with shotguns and highlights enemies she damages through walls. Her Riot Drill is a great follow-up, burning enemies through walls wherever she fires it. Capping things off with her ult, this ball brings major speed boosts for your team and explodes near enemies. Clearly, she’s built around a blitz playstyle, rushing a fortified enemy position and introducing a little mayhem into the equation. And with the new, torn up, and modified Olympus thanks to a bit of sabotage, she’s sure to make quick work of the newest map.
Capping things off is an array of cosmetics, as I’m sure you’re all used to. A new battle pass is on the way, but there’s a third-anniversary event as well. With Apex packs centered around Octane, Wattson, and Valkyrie, alongside the ability to get some of the long-disappeared cosmetics, there’s a lot to look forward to starting on February 8.
