This fall will be dominated by Godzilla. Apple TV just released the trailer for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (seen below). The series starring Kurt and Wyatt Russell will expand Legendary Pictures’ MonsterVerse. This might be a smaller scale compared to the blockbuster movies in recent years, but just from the brief footage we have seen, expect some monster action.
The story, as seen in the trailer for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, will go through the span of decades as it follows a family. They have a history with Monarch, and after the attack in San Fransisco, they try to uncover their connection to the organization. In it, you get to see the cast, including the two Russells, who will see the son play a younger version of his father. They will be joined by Christopher Heyerdahl (Under the Banner of Heaven), Mari Yamamoto (Tokyo Vice), and Shota Tsuji (Arrow).
Godzilla Stomps onto Apple TV in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Trailer
In the MonsterVerse, the titular organization has been the connecting thread beyond a few crossover characters in some entries and the monsters. With the next installment coming next year, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the people below will have to adjust to a new era of monsters with Godzilla and Kong roaming the world alongside any other lurking behemoths. It has also been in the canon books and comics.
Apple TV releasing the Monarch: Legacy of Monsters trailer comes in at the perfect time. Earlier this week, Toho released the trailer for its next Godzilla movie, Minus One, which releases this November. Whether you are a fan of the Japanese versions, American, or just love Kaiju action, we will have plenty of giant monsters demolishing cities between November and April with Minus One, Legacy, and The New Empire.
It is important to note that streaming services, like Apple TV Plus, are under scrutiny by creators, such as actors and writers. One of the leading causes of the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes has been streaming services not paying residuals, hiding viewership numbers, and attempting to use AI to replace creatives.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will debut its first two episodes on the streaming service on November 17. It will switch to one episode a week until it finishes its ten-episode run on January 12.
