Whether you’re new to the life of being an adult or been here for decades, introspection is a powerful skill. Unfortunately, it’s also very underutilized. It’s scary, but you have to look inward and question your decisions. When one conservative claimed she was kicked out of a salon after expressing she voted for President Trump, it came as a surprise. A mother and teacher from South Carolina went to TikTok to lay it out straight from her.
“What life is like for a conservative in MN,” reads the text over TikToker Kendypikky’s (Kendra) video, who shares that she went to Sapphire Spa. Kendra then claims she was told to “get the [expletive] out” when—not wanting to lie—she admitted she supported President Trump and federal law enforcement. This was after the conversation had naturally moved towards ICE and their assault on immigrants and Americans in Minnesota.
Unfortunately, Kendra didn’t share a clip of the incident. “I just got the tail end of it,” Kendra says. Not even the partial clip was shared on her TikTok. Kendra then bemoans people for acting that way “because of political difference.”
Enter TikToker Britwill7911, Brittany, who responds to the video, but makes it clear first she isn’t doing this to dunk on Kendra. In fact, it’s a good example of someone living in a “bubble of privilege,” as Brittany puts it. Simply put: if your life is going swell, it’s harder to notice when others are suffering.
“That woman has every right to decide, to refuse their services to anyone that she thinks she doesn’t want to interact with,” Brittany says. She then argues the problem with Kendra’s thinking is that it’s backwards. The problem isn’t how this employee reacted—Kendra should be calling out the conditions that made people feel “despair and fear” by the very people Kendra supports.
“We are well beyond differences of political opinion,” Brittany says. This is a fight over “moral differences.” Brittany then asks a series of poignant questions, such as “Are you okay with families being tear gassed?”
When ICE isn’t tear gassing kids, they’re tear gassing grandmas! “Are you okay…” Brittany continues, listing communities being attacked, kids “living in fear,” and women being shot. Shouldn’t any one of those question your support?
In Brittany’s video, she lays it out flat: either you’re ignorant of the problem or “you’re okay” with ICE’s cruelty.
One commenter stated, “We’re not talking about the fiscal years budget anymore. We’re talking about human rights and it’s just not negotiable.” According to Kendra, the employee’s husband is from Columbia. So, of course she’d be upset. Someone who voted to make her and her husbands’ lives harder just walked into her business.
“I would highly encourage you to take this time and let that be a learning experience for you,” Brittany says, but admits it’s “sad” Kendra probably won’t and that it should be a “learning point” for everyone.
