Working in a restaurant setting can be downright exhausting. From dealing with difficult customers to dealing with inconsistent pay, there are a lot of cons if you choose this line of work. Now, one Arizona worker is speaking out after she was fired from her Chili’s restaurant job. And the reason why? Apparently, it was a crime that she ate food that was going to otherwise be thrown away. Her story is surely a precaution for anybody who wants to work in a restaurant environment.
Peyton (@peyytonwilliamss) shared a TikTok story about her recent firing from an Arizona Chili’s restaurant. She claims that she was fired from Chili’s after she ate a salad while on shift at their restaurant. While working, she started to get hungry around lunchtime and noticed that there was an untouched salad sitting nearby. According to Peyton, the salad was not going to anybody because it was made by accident or the customer no longer wanted it. She said, instead of watching them throw it away, she decided to eat the salad. It was “extra food,” as she explains, so it makes sense to eat it instead of wasting it.
While eating the salad, Peyton’s manager spotted her but didn’t say anything. After a little while, Peyton’s manager confronted her. He asked, “What did I say about people eating extra food?” He asked her if she rung it up and she said, “No, it was extra” since no tables were going to get it. Her manager berated her in front of her co-workers for eating the salad. He told her to ring it up or lose her job. Peyton decided to finish her shift before dealing with it. She thought it was silly that she would have to pay for a salad that was going to be wasted.
Peyton says this is just one of the things that was less than ideal when it came to her Chili’s position. Apparently, they cut her hours, as well as the hours of a lot of other workers at that location. She was finding it difficult to get actual hours so she was already looking for work elsewhere. But this incident was the final nail in the coffin. As she was leaving work the day of the salad incident, she had a feeling that her manager would be calling her about it. She was right. That evening, she found out she was fired. Peyton tells her audience, “I can’t believe my two years at Chili’s is ending like this over a salad.” It’s a ridiculous way for the company to handle matters and maybe it’s for the best when it comes to other employment prospects for Peyton.
