Arizona Residents Fed Up As More People Are Painting Their Houses and Businesses Black: ‘No Idea Why Anyone Wants a Heat Magnet’

A poor choice

While everyone is free to do whatever they want with their homes and businesses, we all have to admit that sometimes, some people’s choices feel a bit questionable, especially in certain states. An example of this occurred in Phoenix, Arizona, where some people have noticed that certain residents are painting their homes black. Normally, this wouldn’t cause an issue, but some citizens are concerned, as black paint usually traps more heat, and with how the weather is right now, many wonder if some people just want to make their homes a heat magnet.

Why are we painting buildings black, Phoenix?

Reddit user maeisbitter posted a picture on the Phoenix, Arizona, subreddit, showing businesses painted in black, wondering why people are choosing this color, especially in the city. The OP followed up by saying that this is a strange choice given how hot the city is already, and with this painting, it would just trap more heat. They also noted that this isn’t a one-time-only thing, as they mention they have seen several buildings painted in black across their area.

While it may not be a big deal for some, the truth is that Phoenix is still one of the hottest cities in the state, and the fact that some businesses are painting their buildings black just baffles some residents, who’d rather stay away from those places due to how warm they feel.

The most shocking thing is that other Reddit users also started commenting, mentioning that they have also seen trends like this in other towns and neighborhoods, which has led them to question those who want to choose this color for their buildings.

Arizona Residents Wonder Why People Are Painting Their Buildings Black

Since this seems to be a citywide thing, or even statewide, as some people claim, many have wondered why residents are following this trend.

“I see the same trend with homes around town. I guess it looks nice and modern, but I have no idea why anyone wants their house to be a heat magnet.“

“Even worse is the black roofs that are being installed on almost every new build or remodel that I see. Everybody is going for the white house with black roof McModern Farmhouse look, and I can’t stand it.“

Others threw a few joking remarks, saying that the color choice is due to how bleak the country is right now.

“We can’t be having cheerful colors in a dystopian hellscape now, can we?“

Ultimately, it seems the majority of people are looking to stay away from these heat traps, especially during the current weather.
