According to a recently posted video on Arizona Senator Mark Kelly’s X account, President Donald Trump is pushing a $1.5 trillion military budget for defense. It is alleged that this is almost more money than every country spends combined, and a 45% increase from last year.

The comment section quickly filled with criticism, with many users taking aim at Kelly rather than the budget proposal. A common theme among the responses was the belief that politicians often remain silent on government spending when it comes from their preferred side, only speaking out when the opposing party is in power.

Trump promised to lower costs. Instead, he's pushing a $1.5 trillion military budget — a huge increase.

Here's an idea: How about we cut that number and put money toward lowering bills for families and actually making people's lives better. That's what I'll be fighting for this… pic.twitter.com/4bTDKCuL8i

According to the footage above, Mark Kelly comments on the authorization bill for the Department of Defense concerning military budgets. Kelly says, “It seems to me that they just kind of picked the big number out of the air, and they’ll figure out ways to spend it.”

The retired astronaut and naval officer said that he is going to be proposing a decrease of $150 billion. He says that this is because “Americans can’t afford their lives.” He suggests that the money could be used for other services, such as keeping health care costs low for those who are struggling.

Recently, Donald Trump made a shocking comment about inflation in the United States, stating, “I love the inflation.” He then doubled down on this by explaining that once the war in Iran ends, the barrels of oil that the United States took under the cover of darkness will be able to help the country.

In the video above, Kelly states that the United States Senate did not authorize this war, which is likely where a majority of the $1.5 trillion being asked for will go.

Reactions to Arizona Senator Mark Kelly’s Defense Budget Comments

Commenters were not as focused on the cost being discussed, instead pointing their frustrations to similar incidents in the past. One person wrote, “Obama spent almost 7 trillion on the military and this [expletive] Kelly is talking [expletive] about Trump? He said nothing when Obama spent 7 trillion. He has no right to talk about Trump when he was silent with Obama. This SOB continues his insurrection criticizing his commander and chief.”

Other comments ask that Kelly direct his attention to more pressing matters, with another person writing, “How about you eliminate all the fraud that Democrats are turning a blind eye to before going after military spending.“

Comments are still flooding the original video, and more people are expressing their frustrations and opinions against Mark Kelly’s thoughts on the proposed budget for the Department of Defense.
