Arizona Senator Mark Kelly recently uploaded a video in which he shared his decision to quit driving a Tesla. In the video, you can see him pointing at his car parked behind him. Apparently, that day would be the last time the senator drove the car to work. He said that he didn’t expect his decision to purchase a Tesla would become a political issue. Whenever he drove the car, he was always reminded of how much damage Elon Musk and Donald Trump were doing to the United States.
The Arizona senator mentioned how Trump and Musk were trying to cut health benefits for the poor and senior citizens. “It’s one bad thing after the next,” Kelly said. Although he was planning to get a new car, he admitted that there were things he liked and disliked about his Tesla. However, he didn’t care about the car’s quality. “What matters is doing the right thing. I don’t want to drive a car built and designed by an asshole,” Kelly added.
The growing dislike toward the Tesla brand isn’t new, and the Arizona senator isn’t the only one who decided to ditch their car. Numerous protests against the brand have been spreading in the United States. Some people have drawn graffiti art against the brand, while others have protested right in front of Tesla showrooms. One smart businesswoman even used her abandoned Tesla car for promotion by allowing others to smash it to bits using sledgehammers.
Bye Bye Musk
Kelly’s decision garnered significant support from Redditors, many of whom expressed their disdain for Musk, with some even going as far as calling him a Nazi. One user shared a tweet showcasing a confrontation between Kelly and Musk on X, where Kelly was advocating for Ukraine, and Musk responded with “You’re a traitor.” While this may not be the sole reason the Arizona senator decided to part ways with his Tesla, it certainly didn’t help improve Musk’s image in the eyes of many.
However, some critics took aim at Kelly, questioning why it took him so long to recognize Musk’s true nature. “While I certainly appreciate the sentiment, it took him this long to realize Elon was an asshole?” one Redditor remarked. Others pointed out that Musk had always been problematic, and supporting him was a mistake from the start. “Just putting this out there because most people don’t know: Musk didn’t invent Tesla. He bought his way in. Musk didn’t invent PayPal. He bought his way in. Musk doesn’t design or know how to make anything,” another user commented.
