If you’ve ever flown in the past, you already know almost everything comes at an extra charge. Decades ago, many things that were covered on a flight now cost money. For example, having more luggage than normal. One Arizona woman took to social media with an in-flight confession. She claims she’s never been charged for the price of alcoholic drinks while flying Southwest Flights. Now, others are speculating why this is and sharing their own personal stories about how they’re in the same boat (or, in this instance, plane.)
Madison Reed (@_madisonpamela on TikTok) posted a video captioned, “Ya’ll don’t tell Southwest but I have never paid for an adult beverage on board. Every flight I get a little wine or gin and they never actually charge me. Southwest… do ya’ll have a little crush on me??” Personally, if I was Madison, I would have kept that information to myself. But she is very curious and plenty of TikTokers responded with similar stories or theories on why she is never charged for a drink.
In Madison’s case, it is probably pure luck she’s never taken a charge for a drink if she flies frequently. One user suggested it may be her sincerity that’s saved her money over the years. They claimed, “My friend’s a flight attendant and she said she ‘forgets’ to charge people who are kind to her and her crew mates.”
Another added, “Girl don’t say too much cause management will yell at us but I have never charge anyone for anything my entire time of being a flight attendant. If anyone asks the card reader is broken.”
It is as odd common expeirence among Southwest Airlines fliers. Many people have speculated that this could be due to many reasons. Card reader issues seem to be rather common on these flights. That’s not exactly ‘conspiracy’ material—my local gas station has problems at least once a month. Others suggest flight attendants who don’t want to go through the trouble.
Southwest has even confirmed they will sometimes give out free beverages for certain occasions. However, it’s usually because of holidays. Don’t expect to ever receive a free drink on a Southwest flight and always come prepared. Since Madison’s viral TikTok has likely alerted Southwest to the reality many people aren’t being charged for drinks.
