Ark: Survival Evolved was first available in early access on Windows PC in June of 2015. The game follows an action-adventure survival format but includes unusual elements like the ability to ride dinosaurs while gathering resources and crafting needed equipment. The game’s roaming dinosaurs and complex survival mechanics proved immediately popular with players, earning $10 million in revenues in its first week. The current Ark experience is the result of frequent updates and the challenges of supporting 2.5 million PC players, according to a press release from Studio Wildcard.

Studio Wildcard was founded in part by Jesse Rapczak after his time as a technical art director at Microsoft Game Studios. The studio seeks to bring AAA quality to ambitious indie projects by leveraging the talents of team members across multiple continents.
