I am a firm believer that not everyone in the world is capable of taking care of children. Just because a couple can conceive and birth a child together should not automatically mean that they are qualified to ensure the baby stays alive. With that in mind, one Arkansas couple was just arrested after failing to provide their teenage child with their daily needs, even going so far as to only feed them a single Pop-Tart once a week. I hope they’re never able to put their hands on another child ever again.
Arkansas residents Annie Caler and Daniel Caler were arrested after their child told school officials about the abuse they’d endured for nearly three years. The abuse ranged from sexual to neglectful, with the family exclusively allowing her one drink of water and one Pop-Tart a week as a means of food. She was even forced to sleep in the bathtub at night as opposed to in a bed.
Additional reports from the child include having a broken leg and the Caler couple refusing to get her medical treatment. On another occasion, Annie stabbed the child in the neck after not being satisfied with how the dishes were cleaned. Fortunately, the couple are each being held in prison on bonds that amount to over one million dollars in total. The mugshots of both individuals were also released, prompting commenters to let loose with their opinions on their appearance. One person said, “Arrest her barber too 🥀.”
Both Annie and Daniel Caler are being charged with child endangerment alongside a slew of other charges, including introducing drugs into the body of another, rape, sexual assault, and more. The child in question is currently safe and is not expected to make any contact with the Caler’s for any reason. I’m incredibly happy that someone at the teenager’s school felt it appropriate to call authorities because who knows for how much longer this could have gone on.
