A man in Jonesboro, Arkansas, is calling out a local nightclub on TikTok for allegedly targeting Black people unfairly through its dress code policy. He believes that specific clothing items commonly associated with Black culture were banned, suggesting that the establishment was racially profiling its customers.
In his TikTok video, filmed outside the venue known as Midnight Rodeo Club, the man stood with a small group of friends while pointing to a large white sign listing the club’s dress code. “I ain’t gon lie, boy. This is basically saying no [Blacks] though,” he said, reading from the sign that prohibited items such as tall T-shirts, jewelry, solid color T-shirts, jerseys, sagging pants, and durags. “Look, this is all we wear,” he added.
The man went on to say that the policy was a thinly veiled way of keeping certain people out while avoiding explicit language. “They just don’t want to say it out loud,” he remarked. He also pointed out that one of his friends, who appeared to be white, would be excluded because Black people accompanied him.
What Viewers Are Saying About the Arkansas Club Dress Code
Most people in the comments section had their own experiences to share. “They told me no sagging even though I wasn’t sagging,” one viewer commented. Another wrote, “They told me no one-pieces, no chains on my shorts, can’t wear mesh.”
One person attempted to justify the restrictions, suggesting the club’s management may have safety concerns. “They don’t let folks have they chains out because if someone snatch it, it’s gon result in a fight or something worse,” the commenter explained. “They don’t want folks wearing baggy clothes because it’s easy to hide weapons, knives, guns, etc.”
Some, however, dismissed that reasoning, saying the policy had existed for years and was clearly exclusionary. “They have been that way forever… you’re not missing anything in there anyway,” someone remarked. A second added, “Just say no colors and call it a day,” while a third wrote, “[And] they wonder why they don’t get business!”
