It’s hard to know what’s more shocking to the internet right now: the deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife or President Trump‘s reaction to the tragedy. For those unaware, Trump made a social media post about film director Rob Reiner, who was recently killed in his home. Instead of letting the dead rest in peace, Trump immediately blames Reiner for his own death and makes things about him, claiming he was a victim of “TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.” And Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s son was not having it.
Actor Patrick Schwarzenegger took to X to respond to the President’s egregious statement about the late Rob Reiner. “What a disgusting and vile statement,” Schwarzenegger remarked about what Trump had said. And it doesn’t take much for many others to agree. “Nobody is as deranged by Trump as Trump himself,” responds a commenter. Countless others remarked on how they couldn’t believe this was real, that Trump was actually disrespecting someone who had just been killed. “This isn’t about politics anymore. It’s about basic human decency,” adds another.
As for Redditors, a handful of people were a bit surprised that Patrick Schwarzenegger said anything at all against President Trump. “I for some reason expected him to be a closeted MAGAt,” said a poster, surprised by Patrick’s remark. Another person pointed out that there’s plenty of evidence that Patrick is most certainly a Republican. However, His mom, Maria Shriver, most definitely hates Trump and is not scared to publicly call him out, especially after what he said about Rob Reiner. Others added that Arnold Schwarzenegger is a Republican but isn’t MAGA. Arnold even went out of his way to root for Kamala Harris during the previous election.
Assumptions or rumors about Patrick Schwarzenegger’s political stance aside, it’s clearly not hard to see why anyone supporting either major party would see Trump’s statement as anything but extremely unnecessary and narcissistic. This is the same President who did his best to shoot down anyone who spoke out against Charlie Kirk after his tragic death, and now he’s turned out to be doing the same against Rob Reiner.
To conclude, taking shots at President Trump right now for his despicable statement is no challenge at all. But it’s encouraging for many to see that even Republicans, Trump’s political party, are also finding what the President said as very unacceptable. If his actions and decisions since his inauguration haven’t been signs enough, heinous statements such as this one about Rob Reiner will hopefully be a wake-up call to his supporters.
