It’s been almost a week since the long-awaited extended look for GTA 6 premiered, and despite what many may think, hype hasn’t died down. Many actually believe that everyone’s excitement has reached a whole new level, and that is thanks to some of the details that those who attended the GTA 6 previews shared. If you didn’t know, some content creators got to see more of this worldwide phenomenon, and so far, impressions are as favorable as many of us were expecting.
GTA 6 Is Everything Gamers Wanted
In case you’re one of the few souls who hasn’t watched the extended look of GTA 6, yeah, it was as good as many of us imagined. Yet, despite its lengthy runtime, we all craved more, and thankfully, a couple of outlets and content creators were able to see more of this next main installment in the Grand Theft Auto series.
Now, while the extended look gave us a better idea of what the game will be about, several attendees at the preview event confirmed that GTA 6 won’t be as arcade-y as GTA 5. Not to say that the latter was bad—just look at the GTA Online numbers and people still roaming around several servers. The fifth installment remains a decade-old success. Still, this new entry had to evolve somehow, and it seems Rockstar Games managed to mix not just everything that worked in previous GTA titles, but also grabbed parts of other systems from different Rockstar Games titles.
For starters, GTA 6 seems to be leaning more toward a life-sim-lite direction. As we saw in the extended look, there are many systems reminiscent of Red Dead Redemption 2, which, at least here, we believe is the most immersive open-world game ever made. GTA 6 might take away that crown soon, though.
Still, that doesn’t mean the “wreak havoc however you want” ways won’t be here. If anything, it seems it will be much better than GTA 5. We already saw Lucia and Jason destroying police cars, several explosions here and there, and a high-stakes chase sequence around Leonida—it is as cinematic as ever, and it captures that more arcade approach that the series is well known for. Some players even noticed a bit of Max Payne thrown into the mix with the shooting mechanics, which is a bonus for many of us Bullet Time lovers.
Yet another thing many content creators emphasized is how emotionally charged the game can be, gameplay- and story-wise. While we don’t know much about the latter, we know both Jason and Lucia will take the reins for the adventure. Outlets such as IGN even confirmed that your actions as one will affect your relationship with either protagonist.
Renowned content creator TGG also leaned toward the above statement, claiming that almost every action in the game has some weight to it. How far will it go? We’re still not sure, but judging by how the honor system worked in Red Dead Redemption 2, we can expect the same level of nuance here, if not more.
Overall, these are truly exciting times. After such a long wait and many of us being a bit skeptical about this long-awaited open-world experience, it seems we’re about to enter one of the wildest and most jaw-dropping rides the gaming industry has seen. And while November may feel right around the corner, all of this excitement will make the wait a bit longer. Still, we know that GTA 6 will meet and likely exceed our expectations, and we can thank these previews and the extended look for that.
