Ashanti and Nelly have welcomed their bundle of joy! After a publicly celebrated reconciliation last year, the lovebirds are finally parents. However, Ashanti announced the exciting news by keeping it real with their fans.
On Wednesday, the Foolish singer announced her birth. However, rather than share a picture of the newborn, she displayed her postpartum body on Instagram. Ashanti donned a robe over a skimpy two-piece ensemble featuring a high-waisted pant that teased her postpartum belly. She was makeup-free, donning a pearl and diamond necklace and her engagement ring. “Four weeks postpartum. You have no idea what this body can do,” she declared while rubbing her belly. The accompanying caption read:
“Funny how life’s plans aren’t…always on time.. lol. I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings! This is what postpartum looks like.”
The post was immediately flooded with congratulatory messages from excited fans. One comment read, “You look great!!! Congratulations!!!” Others, however, praised the singer for being candid about her post-pregnancy body. “I honor the fact that she is being honest about the process of the body when becoming a mom,” one fan wrote. A similar comment read, “Congrats on the baby. You look so beautiful. I love that you are transparent with what it looks like after having a baby.” A fourth follower penned, “THANKS FOR BEING NORMAL ASHANTI ❤❤❤ WE LOVE U POST PARTUM AND ALL.”
Ashanti & Nelly Chose A Unique Sentimental Name For Their Child
In an interview with ET Online, Ashanti and Nelly opened up about welcoming their child while giving details about the name and sex. Their son, Kareem Kenkaide Haynes, was born on July 18. At just a month old, the little one already has an adorable nickname, KK. Explaining the inspiration behind his name, the songstress confessed, “His dad named him with a lot of pride.” Ashanti noted that Kareem means generous, kind, and dignified, while her son’s middle name is a tribute to her father’s name.
As for the delivery, the new mom confessed that baby Kareem arrived a little earlier than expected, causing Nelly to fly in at the last minute. Nevertheless, it was a beautiful experience. “Having all of us in the delivery room and seeing his face for the first time, I cried. It was just so emotional and spiritual at the same time,” Ashanti told the publication. The couple has yet to share photos of their son, but the excitement fans feel can’t be denied.
