Ashanti‘s proposal from Nelly was all that she dreamed of despite being unconventional. The singer, in a new interview, went into detail about the most special night of her life. After giving love a second chance ten years after their first breakup, Ashanti and Nelly sealed the deal of their love story earlier this year. Not only did they get engaged, but the lovebirds are expecting their first child together.
As Ashanti’s due date draws closer, she opened up about her proposal, admitting she didn’t see it coming. “It was just such a beautiful, intimate moment,” she sweetly recalled to ET Online. “We were not dressy.” The Rock Wit U singer confessed that she wearing Nelly’s boxers and t-shirt when he popped the big question.
“I had no idea. He completely shocked me. I mean I felt like it was going to come soon but I didn’t know when.”

While holding back her laughter, Ashanti got nitty-gritty with her recollection. “The way that it happened was so funny,” she recalled. “I’m sitting in the bed, watching TV with my boxers on, and you know it’s not really sexy.” However, the ordinariness of the moment only made Ashanti’s joy overflow. “I cried. Gave him the biggest hug and kiss ever… I was overjoyed and shocked and surprised and happy kind of like all in one,” she said.
Ashanti Feels ‘So So Aligned’ With Nelly This Second Time
While it is often a risk to try again with an ex, Ashanti and Nelly are more than sure the second time is a charm. “The growth has been like superb, you know, like on both ends,” the 43-year-old noted. She explained that in the past they handled conflict with aggression and lack of compassion. However, now, things are much different.
“Now, it’s kind of like, ‘All right, you good?’ You know, give me a kiss goodbye and it’s over… We apologize… It used to take me a little longer to apologize.”
