Republicans continue to shower Trump with praise, showing almost blind loyalty to the former president. Whether he deserves it or not, they seem determined to keep him in their good graces. One of them is Iowa Representative Ashley Hinson, who claimed that God saved President Trump’s life. That remark didn’t go over well. In fact, it got her heavily booed by the citizens attending a recent town hall.
It all started when Ashley Hinson voiced her support for the “big beautiful bill” that would make it harder for people to qualify for Medicaid, along with a number of other changes. During her speech, she claimed Trump would help Iowa residents afford groceries and gas. She also said he could help more people reach the American dream. The crowd wasn’t buying it. Many immediately shouted “No!” in response.
Despite the backlash, Hinson pushed forward. She doubled down by claiming God was protecting Trump, which only fueled the crowd’s anger. Her remarks about deporting “criminal illegal aliens” triggered even louder boos and resistance. Some attendees called her a liar and a fraud.
Several people questioned why congressional Republicans hadn’t held Trump accountable for the damage he’s caused the country. When asked why she wasn’t doing her job to check the executive branch, Hinson brushed it off, saying America didn’t need another “impeachment charade.”
It wasn’t just Iowa citizens who were frustrated with Hinson’s actions and remarks. Many internet users also slammed her, calling her a fraud and a liar. Some even argued that if a god truly existed, Trump wouldn’t have been allowed to survive. One user wrote, “Trump not being struck down yet is one of the greatest arguments against God I’ve come across so far, next to the existence of children’s hospitals.”
Others criticized Hinson for bringing religion into politics, saying her comments were completely out of line. Another commenter added, “Religion does not belong in politics, and no religious argument made to defend a politician will ever influence me.”
Some were hopeful that the backlash signaled Iowans were beginning to recognize the harm caused by Republicans like Hinson. One user pointed out the importance of focusing not just on criticism, but also on alternatives.
“Every time someone puts up a post critical of an elected official you don’t like, it’s even more important to mention who is running against them. Otherwise, you’re just giving the incumbent more name recognition. Kevin Techau is a Democrat running for that House seat. He has a long record of public service to Iowa and would be a great person to represent us in Congress.”
