Assassin’s Creed keeps stepping outside its video game boundaries, doesn’t it? First, we had that movie back in 2016 that came out to a largely-negative reception, and now we have the news that Netflix is planning a series adaptation of the popular history-spanning video game series. Via Twitter, Netflix announced that not only was a live-action adaptation in the works, Ubisoft’s Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik, from Ubisoft’s Film & TV Division will serve as Executive Producers.

Netflix original series vice president, Peter Friedlander, had this to say:

From its breathtaking historical worlds and massive global appeal as one of the best selling video game franchises of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting epic and thrilling entertainment based on this distinct IP [Assassin’s Creed] and provide a deeper dive for fans and our members around the world to enjoy.”

Jason Altman, head of Ubisoft’s Film and TV department in Los Angeles, chimed in as well:

For more than 10 years, millions of fans around the world have helped shape the Assassin’s Creed brand into an iconic franchise. We’re thrilled to create an Assassin’s Creed series with Netflix and we look forward to developing the next saga in the Assassin’s Creed universe.”

This is not the first video game adaptation to grace Netflix’s screens. Their version of The Witcher, starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, came out last year to critical acclaim, and subsequently had a second season ordered.

In other Assassin’s Creed news, more details on the upcoming AC Valhalla were revealed in a deep dive trailer released earlier this month. In the new trailer, set in the era of Vikings invading English shores, we got a closer look at some of the features we’ll be able to get stuck in with, from conquest battles to building up a Viking army. Details on content coming after launch was also hinted at, with two major expansions and a slew of free content making up a healthy post-launch roadmap.

Are you excited for the new Netflix adaptation? Or do you think we’re looking at another issue similar to the movie? Let me know in the comments below!
