What a bleak day it is for Destiny 2 fans. While Bungie has put Marathon in the spotlight, drawing all attention to this upcoming shooter, several Guardians were still hopeful that the shooter they call home would bring anything resembling a roadmap for the year. Unfortunately, what we got was so disappointing that we just saw several Ghosts turn off at the same time. The long-awaited Shadow and Order update for Destiny 2 has been officially delayed, leaving a lot of players heartbroken and wondering if Destiny 2 will ever get back on its feet again.
Destiny 2: Shadow and Order Delayed Until June 9, 2026
In case you missed the heartbreaking news, Bungie released a statement today saying that Destiny 2: Shadow and Order would be delayed until June 9, 2026. This is one of the biggest delays we’ve seen for the shooter, pushing the update three months past its intended release date.
Naturally, this news shook the community, and many Guardians out there didn’t take it well. Even if Renegades steered the shooter into a more promising direction, this expansion didn’t have enough content to keep players around for long, and many of them were already hoping for the next big chapter of Destiny 2 to arrive in the following weeks.
So far, reactions so far have been of disappointment, with many claiming that this doesn’t bode well for the game.
“These changes sound nice and all, but at this point, I don’t think this is enough to save the game and bring most players back,” said YouTuber Mactics on their X account.
Unfortunately, many players believe that Bungie is pushing Destiny 2 to the sidelines while they focus on launching Marathon, whose release is just around the corner.
“So what I’m getting from this is: Hey guys, we’re solely going to focus on marathon for a couple months since we’ll be competing against other big-name extraction shooters, so we’ll have to push back updates and anything new,” commented X user Envy.
Events and Fixes Are Still Planned for Destiny 2
Yet, those hopeful for Destiny 2: Shadow and Order have mentioned that the intended additions, such as Tiered Gear and Pantheon 2.0, among other things, sound great, but will sadly have to wait a long time until they arrive in the game.
In the meantime, Bungie confirmed that content will continue to come to Destiny 2, including routine bug fixes, the Guardian Games in March, a more frequent Iron Banner cadence starting in April, and more. Yet, this is all content the majority of us already know, meaning that we will experience one of the largest content droughts in the history of this shooter, which is the last thing the playerbase needed.
