A woman visiting Atlanta for work recently recounted a frightening experience she had using Uber Eats, claiming that a delivery driver cornered her inside a hotel elevator and tried to force her to give him a five-star rating before handing over her food. The incident, according to her account, took place after the driver somehow gained access to the building. She also claimed that Uber’s initial response to her safety complaint was inadequate.
In her TikTok video, the woman explained that she had clearly written in the app for the delivery to be handed to her in the lobby, since the hotel required a key card to get beyond the front doors. As she rode the elevator down to meet the driver, another man entered from a different floor. At first, he spoke casually, asking if she was doing well. Then he asked if he could deliver a package to a woman named Michelle. When she replied that she was Michelle, she felt confused, unsure how he had gotten inside the secured building.
Before the elevator doors opened, the man suddenly moved closer to her and hugged her. Startled, she pushed him away and asked him to hand over her food. The driver refused, insisting she first leave him a five-star review. She attempted to open the app and submit one, but the delivery hadn’t yet been marked complete. According to her, the man then tapped something on his phone and told her the review was done before finally giving her the order.
More on What Happened
As she tried to exit, he reached his hand into the closing doors and stepped toward her again. The woman quickly raised her voice, demanding that he stop harassing her. She was finally able to break away from the strange man when people started coming out of nearby elevators.
The customer filed a report with Uber immediately afterwards, typing through trembling hands. Within minutes, the company responded with an apology message stating that the driver had “tried to flirt” with her and issued a refund. However, to her, the response felt dismissive and failed to acknowledge the seriousness of the situation. She also questioned how the driver had been able to enter the hotel without a key card, pointing to potential negligence on the hotel’s part.
