When you think you’ve seen everything, the internet is always here to serve as a constant reminder that you’re in fact mistaken. Case in point, a wild clip of an Aussie loading up his burning vehicle with a case of beer is making the rounds over on Reddit, and it’s equally shocking as it is hilarious. Please don’t try this at home, folks.
The video appears to have been recorded by a passerby sat in a car opposite the incident in question. The car is parked in front of a Liquorland store in a suburb of Sydney known as Ermington. Straight off the bat, it’s clear that the silver saloon’s bonnet is on fire, with smoke billowing out from underneath the hood.
Remarkably, the man who owns the vehicle appears completely unfazed by the flames, and nonchalantly attempts to place a case of beer in the front seat of the vehicle. The smoke is far too thick in the front seat, however, so the man changes his mind and loads up the beer in the backseat instead. You can hear the person recording the footage even say, “Can you believe it? He’s put his beer in the car. What an idiot.” as he chuckles to himself while he watches the wild spectacle unfold.
Later in the snippet of footage, we even see another gentleman enter the scene with a fire extinguisher, who attempts to snuff out the flames. However, while his intentions are heroic, he doesn’t quite manage to fully douse the flames, as the blaze rekindles itself again shortly after. New South Wales Fire and Rescue were called to extinguish the fire shortly after the end of the video. Thankfully, no one was hurt during the incident.
Of course, the internet was equally shocked and amused by the crazy footage, with one Redditor chalking the car owner’s behaviour up to either alcohol or drug abuse.
Meanwhile, another netizen chimed in jokingly, saying that this is just standard behavior in Queensland, Australia writing, “I think he’s just a Queenslander 🤣” Elsewhere, a further user quipped, “Aussie: By God this cars gonna get me through one last beer run if it’s the last thing I do.”
Per the Daily Mail, the cameraman who witnessed the fiasco firsthand, described the scene: “It was a mix of shock, disbelief, and a little bit of humour. I mean, who does that? It was surreal, like watching a scene from a movie where common sense takes a back seat to beer. Lucky no one was injured.”
