We reported a few days ago that Avengers: Infinity War broke a Marvel-record $39 million on its opening night. Today, Infinity War set two more huge box office records.
Via Box Office Mojo, Avengers: Infinity War has had the biggest domestic opening of all time. By raking in over $250 million, the “most ambitious crossover in history” toppled Star Wars: The Force Awakens opening weekend box office total of $247,966,675. To put this in perspective for Marvel, the first Avengers movie was fifth on that list and brought in about $207 million during its opening weekend.
That wasn’t the only record Marvel would break today. Infinity War has now become the biggest worldwide opening of all time. Avengers: Infinity War came in with $630 million worldwide. This crushes The Fate of the Furious record-setting opening weekend total of $541 million. It’s important to note that Infinity War has yet to open in China (it releases May 11th) so this record could have actually been much higher.
The final detail that I found interesting from the record-setting weekend is with that $630 million worldwide, the MCU (with 19 total movies) has made over $15 billion combined. It’s safe to say that superhero fatigue hasn’t set in yet.
Avengers: Infinity War is all over mainstream media right now. On Jimmy Kimmel, drawings of Infinity War characters (drawn by the actors who played them respectively), are being sold for hundreds to thousands of dollars (it is for a fantastic cause as all of the money will be donated to Starlight Children’s Foundation).
