Avowed: Best Starting Attributes

There’s no better feeling than being able to dump skill points into your favorite attributes to help you get along faster or easier in a game. In Avowed, your attributes quite literally determine aspects of the game, including dialogue options and even whether you can bypass certain areas. However, some attributes are just wildly better for certain types of characters, while others can be left alone for the remainder of the game.

Best Starting Attributes in Avowed

Players will maneuver through Avowed focusing on six different attributes. These attributes help determine how you’ll navigate the world, talk with others, and complete quests. The attributes are:

AttributesDescription
MightHow much damage you can deal and your carrying capacity.
ConstitutionYour max HP and resistance to poison damage and bleeding damage.
DexterityYour attack speed and action speed.
PerceptionHow high your chance of a critical hit is, and your maximum range for ranged weapons.
IntellectYour max essence and resistance to elemental magic.
ResolveYour max stamina and second wind efficiency.

After starting the game and choosing your background, several of your attempts will already be filled out. However, as you progress through the game and level up, you will be able to assign more attribute points. That being said, the three most important attributes to focus on are Might, Perception, and Resolve.

  • Might – While increasing your strength is great, the real point in filling out this attribute is to increase how much you can carry. Anyone who has ever played a game with bag weight understands just how important this is.
  • Perception – I’ve learned that despite there being many different attribute checks within conversations, Perception is the one that comes up the most.
  • Resolve – Resolve gives you a chance to increase the number of hits you can land, which is important in the latter parts of the game.

When it comes to the other three attributes, they just aren’t as universally useful to players. Your Intellect is only important if you’re choosing the way of a mage, and there are many different ways to increase your max HP without ever having to touch your Constitution. Lastly, when it comes to Dexterity, the improvements gained per attribute point are hardly noticeable to the point where I felt it didn’t matter to add anything to it.
