During a high school basketball game in Kansas, a referee blatantly faked a fall after a female player barely touched him following a call. Contrary to everyone’s worries, the man managed to survive and finish the game. Phew.
The clip in question was shared by Robbie Harvey on TikTok. According to him, the diving referee, at one point during the game, called a technical foul and ejected a player, that is, the girl who clearly “victimized” him.
According to the Varsity Sports Live YouTube account, the game was between the Eudora Cardinals and the Bonner Springs Braves. The incident occurred in the third quarter, with only 2:59 left on the clock.
The man approached the high school girl, walking menacingly, knowing that he held the authority in an otherwise lighthearted game. He eventually walks into the girl’s space, with one of her arms, which was extended, touching him. The referee then paused, and after a brief delay, fell to the ground and stayed there, acting as if he had just been knocked out.
“Oh, she’s fighting it… And the ref… just… wow,” one of the game’s commentators said, not believing what had just happened in front of his eyes.
Surviving The Fall, Reactions
Robbie indicated that it is unclear whether any disciplinary action has been or will be taken against the Kansas referee. However, he clarified that the official somehow managed to referee the rest of the high school basketball game after he was “clearly” left unconscious by the outrageous “attack.”
“He survived that brutal assault,” Robbie said, sarcastically.
Users were equally sarcastic with the Kansas referee, mocking him for his obvious fake fall. Some were worried that he might have experienced a medical episode. That theory was disproven as he managed to continue for the rest of the game.
“The worst attack I’ve ever seen,” one user said. Another one wrote, “He really tried so hard.” A third one added, “He was LeBron’s coach in high school.”
What the referee had in mind when apparently faking a fall caused by a much smaller high school student is unknown. And in case someone was wondering, the Cardinals won 54 to 38.
