According to The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Reeves’ The Batman could begin filming in November 2019.
THR’s Borys Kit had this to say when asked about who will play the dark knight in the Matt Reeves’ solo film:
“The script is basically in, although Reeves will continue tweaking it and working on it. And I’m hearing the studio wants to start shooting in November. So let’s say between now and then?”
This isn’t the first time Kit broke news on development on The Batman. Back in June, Kit stated that Matt Reeves had turned in the first act of his script. This partial script included a younger version of Batman, leaving Ben Affleck’s iteration of the character in uncertainty. In the June report, Kit said:
“Writer-director Matt Reeves turned in the first act of a new screenplay during the Memorial Day weekend. It’s said to focus on a young caped crusader, and while the studio would not comment, it’s unlikely that Ben Affleck, who has played Batman in three features, will again don the cowl.”
A few months after this news, The Geeks WorldWide reported that Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi) met with Warner Bros. for a mystery role. Fan speculation ran rampant that Isaac could be in talks to play Batman in the Matt Reeves project but those rumors have since gone cold over the past few months.
Not much is officially known about The Batman, even now. Over the past few years, rumors have circulated around the main antagonist for the film from The Penguin to Red Hood to even a group of Batman’s rogues gallery. We’ll just have to wait and see in hopes that Warner Bros. drops some official information about the project sometime soon.
