Warner Bros. insiders have reported that an early cut of Zack Snyder’s upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice received a standing ovation from a small group of Warner Bros. executives.
After seeing Dawn of Justice, the executives at Warner Bros. are centering the entire DC Cinematic Universe around Batman.
Ben Affleck was apparently the reason for a significant amount of praise, with one Warner Bros. executive calling him “the definitive Batman.” The executives at Warner Bros. are reportedly trying to get Ben Affleck to sign a three movie deal.
However, while it doesn’t come as a surprise that Batman will now be the center focus of the DCCU, it seems odd that the good people over at Warner Bros. are just now centering the cinematic universe around Batman. This may lead to some movies down the line feeling too tonally different with the foundation of the universe.
Given that Affleck’s recent films, Live by Night and The Accountant, have been affected by his donning of the cowl, Warner Bros. might have to pony up some serious cash. The Accountant and Live by Night, both Warner Bros. films, have shifted release dates. Live by Night was pushed back to sometime in 2017 this past weekend. The Accountant was pushed back from a release in January of 2016 to October of 2016. Affleck is known as a serious director and actor, so a departure from such films for too long of a period of time might not sound appealing to him.
