Image Comics is bringing Joe Madureira’s Battle Chasers comic back with a brand-new story. The series debuted back in 1998 and ran for nine issues until August 2001. Unfortunately, the planned tenth issue was never released…until now. Hey, better late than never, right?
Battle Chasers Comic
Per the folks at Gizmodo, Battle Chasers #10 will kick off a brand-new story set in Madureira’s steampunk world. The original comic series focuses on legendary swordsman Garrison who has recently lost his wife. This caused the swordsman to lay down his blade to mourn. However, when the rogue Red Monika accidentally releases four powerful villains from prison, Garrison joins the young girl to stop them. Together the duo is accompanied by a pair of magical gloves named Gully, a wizard named Knolan, and a giant war golem called Calibretto.
In this tenth issue, a new story arc titled “Martial Law” kicks off. It sees Garrison and Monika teaming up once again to battle a gang of supernatural killers known as the Martial Paladins. Joining Image Comics and Madureira is artist Ludo Lullabi.
A Long Time Coming…
Speaking on the return to the Battle Chasers comic, creator Joe Madureira shared why now is the perfect time to return: “I’ve been really moved over the years by the level of excitement Battle Chasers still generates decades after its original release.” Of course, fans have not been completely forgotten, in the interim between issues #9 and #10 Madureira released a game based on the series called “Nightwar.” Plus, a television series is currently in the works.
However, Madureira felt that now was the “perfect time to drop some new books.” After all, it was therapeutic for the writer and video game creator who says that “working on these characters again has healed some part of my soul.”
Battle Chasers #10 is finally out on June 14 from Image Comics.
