This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information.

Causal Bit Games’ Battle Princess Madelyn is easily one of the most anticipated indie games of the year, and their latest trailer has only fueled the indie fire. The newest trailer showcases the indie platformer’s gameplay, and, trust me, you won’t want to miss the first level of Battle Princess Madelyn!

The trailer begins with an animated sequence that is reminiscent of The Princess Bride as a grandfather visits his apparently sick granddaughter with a book. From there, gameplay from Chapter One of Battle Princess Madelyn fills us in on the rest of the story. In order to save her family and her kingdom, knight-in-training Madelyn, partnered with her ghost dog, Fritzy, must fight the armies of the undead and solve puzzles to defeat an evil wizard.

Battle Princess Madelyn takes on the style of a  Metroidvania platformer with a retro feel similar to Ghouls ‘n Ghosts or even Duck Tales, and its challenging gameplay provides a pretty addicting experience. Christopher Obritsch, Creative Director and Co-Founder of Casual Bit, wanted to make a game for his daughter, and now she’s pretty much the boss! As the inspiration behind Madelyn herself, Chris’ daughter is a huge part of the creation process. If you’d like to learn more, check out our interview the Causal Bit Games’ team here!

Battle Princess Madelyn

Unfortunately, Battle Princess Madelyn still doesn’t have a solid release date yet, but here’s to hoping we’ll have an idea soon! The platformer is set to release on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PS Vita, and Wii U, and fans and supporters of the Kickstarter success are beyond ready for its release.
