It is almost time for our innies to go back to work. Apple TV has released an image on social media of Adam Scott running to announce that Severance season 2 has finally begun production (seen below). Director and executive producer Ben Stiller had the perfect reply as he wrote, “Back to work.”
The delay for the follow-up to the dramatic ending to the debut season was due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Writers went on strike as the show started production in May 2023. In the middle of that, SAG-AFTRA went on strike. Some productions were continuing under some exceptions, but major studio-produced and distributed shows and films were shut down. Now that both stoppages have come to an end with new contracts, paused productions have slowly been returning.
Adam Scott Leads the Innie Revolution as Severance Season 2 Begins Production
In recent years, Apple TV has become a proper opponent to other streaming services. Much of that was due to the viral success of Severance, which gained the green light for season 2 several months after the finale. The series worked due to its stellar cast, thought-provoking and weird world that commented on American work culture, and its bold personality with edge-of-your-seat tension and laugh-out-loud humor.
The first season garnered much attention during the award season. It was nominated for 14 Emmys. It only won two awards for its opening credits and original score.
The series follows employees of Lumon Industries. They had a procedure to separate their work lives (innies) and personal lives (outies). Mark (Scott) breaks through this with his colleagues, which soon starts a revolution against their corporate overlords to bridge the gap between the innie and outie. It stars Scott, Patricia Arquette, John Turturro, Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, Dichen Lachman, Jen Tullock, Tramell Tillman, Michael Chernus, and Christopher Walken. Newcomers will include Gwendoline Christie, Alia Shawkat, Bob Balaban, Merrit Wever, Robby Benson, Stefano Carannante, John Noble, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson.
No release date has been slated for Severance season 2. Season 1 is available on Apple TV Plus.
