Benjamin Percy’s Wolverine Series Ending With 50th Issue

Marvel announced that this week’s Wolverine #50 will close out Benjamin Percy’s series. Percy has been guiding readers along quite a ride with clawed mutant since the series debuted in 2020. However, the upcoming relaunch of the X-Men means a new era for Wolverine. While Daredevil’s Saladin Ahmed and Immortal Thor’s Martin Coccolo are taking over Logan’s duties, Percy’s run is ending with a bang. This week’s oversized final issue brings the Sabretooth War to a climactic end, with Wolverine and Sabretooth going toe-to-toe.

The recent issues of Percy’s Wolverine saw Sabretooth getting his hands on a dangerous weapon, Forge’s depowering gun. The crazed villain then shot Wolverine with the gun, successfully stripping him of his powers. To make matters worse, just as Wolverine becomes powerless, Sabretooth’s son (Graydon Creed) arrives to do what his dad cannot; kill Wolverine. The penultimate 49th issue found Wolverine decked out in Adamantium Armor and using a magical Muramasa Blade for a final confrontation with Sabretooth.

Now, Wolverine #50 is bringing this fight to a finish with a 60-page finale issue. Benjamin Percy will finally put an end to the rivalry of a lifetime (or two) with what Marvel is calling the “final showdown”.

Benjamin Percy And Wolverine

While this may be the end of Percy’s run with Wolverine, the writer is not bitter about passing the reins. Speaking about the series he calls fifty issues “a hell of a lot to be thankful for”. In fact, Percy has been with Wolverine for a lot longer than just these fifty issues. He has been writing Logan for around seven years when you factor in the audio dramas, X-Force, and the many other spinoffs and crossovers. That’s a lot of time spent with the clawed X-Man, and Percy is nothing but grateful for the opportunity.

Wolverine #50 will not only close out the main storyline but will feature some celebratory extras. Writer Larry Hama contributes a Logan and Jubilee story, while Benjamin Percy enlists artist Javier Fernandez for a story that looks at Logan’s many lives over the years.

Wolverine #50 is on sale 05/29.
