The pair said they had been preparing for the release for months. So, when it finally came time for Blanco to pop the question, the record producer decided to use their work schedules as a clever cover-up for his proposal.
The day he planned to ask Gomez to marry him, Blanco lied and told the pop star they had to do a shoot for their upcoming album. He didn’t share many details about it to keep his real plans a secret. Gomez was confused but went along with it anyway. However, when the day of the “shoot” came around, Gomez didn’t feel up for it. She was tired and didn’t feel like traveling. Since she was so “grumpy,” Gomez asked Blanco to reschedule their plans, which derailed the musician’s proposal. “She almost didn’t even come,” he recalled.
Thankfully, Blanco convinced Gomez to come and he was able to pop the question. Since the record producer had to lie to make that happen, Blanco joked that getting engaged is “the craziest thing in the world.”
“Right before you’re going to tell someone you’re going to be married to them forever, they’re like, ‘Show me how good you can lie to me,'” Blanco said, adding it was “the hardest” thing he had to do. “She was just upset with me because the day before, I was making bad lies.”
