Leave it to Steam to siphon our wallets with its 2024 Autumn Sale! To make matters worse, you can get some awesome deals on quite a few top-tier games, like Warhammer: Vermintide 2 and Nioh 2. But you’ll also find numerous indie games, AA, and esoteric experiences, as well as games that are best played with friends. And since these games are on sale, there’s no excuse not to get your buddies involved!
Astroneer
Looking for a super chill game? I can’t recommend Astroneer enough. It walks that fine line between relaxing gameplay and game mechanics. In a lot of ways, it’s like Death Stranding, not in that bizarre story way, but in its ‘walking sim’ gameplay and limited storage.
You even work your way towards building vehicles to carry more stuff, in the hopes of blasting off the planet, onto the next one. And heck, even the music is chill.
Warhammer: Vermintide 2
There’s a massive sale going on with Warhammer: Vermintide 2 on Steam, including bundles for the laundry list of DLC. The base game is 95% off! Wow! If you had a lot of fun with Darktide, you’ll be at home with Vermintide 2.
And if you want the DLC, the Legacy Edition bundle Steam offers is 77% off and the Content Bundle, which has more, is 71% off.
Spiritfarer – Farewell Edition
How about another relaxing experience? The fact that Spiritfarer is 85% off should be reason enough to try it out. But if you need some, how about the lovely hand-drawn animation and art? Or the heart wrenching themes of love and loss?
It’s an excellent game to share with your kids because it’s co-op, too! If that’s not enough, you can always try the demo before you buy, but I wouldn’t let this one get away from you.
Golf With Your Friends – Starter Edition
The best kind of golf is, hands down, mini golf, but you’re going to have a hard time playing in colder weather. You can stay home, with a hot cup of cocoa, and still enjoy the game playing Golf With Your Friends. And yes, you should involve your friends.
The Starter Edition is 65% off, which nets you the base game, plus the Bouncy Castle Course and Caddy Pack DLC. You’re spending nearly half of the cost of the base game alone!
Kingdoms and Castles
I’m really hard to please when it comes to strategy games. I like my Total War and Age of Empires, but it doesn’t go much further than that. Kingdoms of Castles came out of nowhere and I fell in love with it.
Part of it is the game’s simplicity and cutesy art style. All the buildings and whatnot just slot into place so nicely and cleanly. Best of all, Kingdoms and Castles is rather relaxing for a strategy game.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered
Maybe it’s not the biggest percentage off, but knocking a tenth off the price of two games sounds like a pretty darn good deal. And it’s for the remastered and exceptional Soul Reaver? If you haven’t played the originals, now’s your chance.
One thing to keep in mind is that the game comes out on Dec. 10 2024. If you buy it before then, it’s a preorder, which I normally don’t recommend, but I’ll make an exception for Soul Reaver.
Nioh 2
Souls-like games seem hard to nail when it isn’t FromSoftware, but the few that do, like Nioh 2, offer that hard-but-fair gameplay with a twist. Nioh 2 is a little more bombastic than, say, Elden Ring, but that’s part of the fun. And you get a crash course in Japanese folklore.
Best of all, this is the Complete Edition, which comes with all the DLC, so you’re getting everything for nearly half off.
F1 24
Very few games capture the handling and experience of F1 racing like F1 24 does, especially if you’re crazy enough to put together a racing seat, steering wheel, and a VR headset. It isn’t strictly multiplayer, either. You can play solo in Driver Career mode or invite a friend.
F1 24 is 60% off right now, until Dec. 5, 2024, as is the Champions Edition, which is only a couple bucks more, and comes with PitCoins, bumper packs, and icons.
Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred Bundle
I know Diablo IV is on Game Pass, but personally, I like owning my games. With this bundle, you get D4 and Vessel of Hatred for less than $50 USD. That’s less than the price of the base game on
Diablo IV and the expansion are also on sale separately, 40% and 25%, respectively. So if you have the base game already, but not the expansion, you’d still be saving somewhere.
Remnant 2
Remnant 2 it’s a hard game to peg. Playing it, you might feel some Destiny, maybe some Dark Souls in there, but that doesn’t do it much justice. A better description is that Remnant 2 is a massive step ahead of what made the first game captivating, and an interesting story to boot.
Instead, approach Remnant 2 as it is—an action RPG that blends FPS gameplay and RPG elements, as well as a neat Trait system that develops as you play.
