Last episode (“Witness”) revealed the answers to a lot of lingering questions for Better Call Saul, but those answers have now led to more questions in “Sunk Costs.”
It’s apparent now that Chuck’s plan the entire time was to trick his brother into practicing shady tactics by letting him know about the tape while planning to catch him in the act this time around, with witnesses. But what will the consequences of the trial be? And who will be defending/prosecuting Jimmy?

While the preview does show Jimmy in an orange jumpsuit, it does reveal he will be defending himself in the trial.
Better Call Saul has always taken an exuberant and colorful approach to The Law, so a Lawyer like Jimmy defending himself will certainly be interesting. It’s been written in stone that every relationship Jimmy has in Better Call Saul is headed for destruction, knowing the events of Breaking Bad, but is this trial where we see Jimmy’s full transition into Saul Goodman?
“Make a change, before you destroy yourself. Or before you destroy someone else,” Chuck says in the preview.
The quick camera cut to Kim after Chuck’s statement spells bad news for Jimmy and Kim shippers, as it seems the romance is coming to an end.
“Witness” also fulfilled the returns of many Breaking Bad alums (Gus, Francesca, Victor), as Mike finds out his mysterious stalker was none other than Gus Fring. Tensions between the two are high in the preview, as they meet on a long stretch of road in the desert.
While it’s edited in a way to make it look like Mike is going to assassinate Gus, their relationship from Breaking Bad teaches us otherwise. Now Mike’s evolution into the far less morally driven – but still far more compassionate than most in the show – character, seen assassinating people for hire and doing other dirty work for Fring, will now begin.
Even though it’s only three episodes in, this season of Better Call Saul really seems to be ramping up to be phenomenal. So be sure to check back to the site for our official review, which will go up Monday immediately following the episode at 10 pm EST.
