Father’s Day was special for the rapper and Grammy winner Jay-Z because his wife, Beyoncé, paired it with a rather touching and historical hair care advertisement and product launch, featuring him. However, many people found the timing suspect, since Jay-Z’s recent appearance in Pennsylvania has further fueled rumors that he’s wearing a lace-front wig. Now, Beyoncé and her husband’s hair care ad is being regarded as both a promotion and some kind of proof attempt that Jay-Z’s ‘fro is unaffected by hair loss.
Jay-Z, 56, was prominently featured in Beyoncé’s ad for Cécred, and its new product line, which is supposedly effective for male dreadlock hairstyles. The video also shows hairstylists combing and tugging Jay-Z’s hair and even untangling it. Jay-Z was notably rocking an Afro hairstyle back in his performance at Roots Picnic 2026 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Beyoncé’s new Cécred hair products managed to slick cornrows in time for Father’s Day.
However, people were not exactly fixated on the hair care products, but rather on being skeptical that Jay-Z had that much hair to begin with. An X account even accused the celebrity couple of teaming up to “disprove the rumors that Jay-Z has been wearing a lace front by promoting Beyoncé’s Cecred hair product brand in a 7 minute video.”
Some X commenters also joined in on the accusations, shaking their heads in disapproval, with remarks like, “All the editing and camera tricks they can never post a straight shot.” Another X user pointed out how, “This video is fake af and he still wearing a lace front ! They so [expletive] corny he got his robot working overtime with double chins and bags under her eyes from his stress and obsession with the next woman,” in a rather scathing criticism.
How did the wig rumors start?
This lace wig drama apparently intensified late in May 2026, immediately after Jay-Z debuted a new, gravity-defying Afro at the Roots Picnic festival. Jay-Z had spent years rocking long, thick freeform locs/wicks; hence, his sudden transformation to a full Afro caused widespread debate across social media, with fans speculating it was a wig or a lace front.
More fuel was added to the fire after people recalled how fellow rapper and celebrity Nicki Minaj joined the rumor mill a year ago, posting an AI-generated image of Jay-Z wearing a pink bob wig. Critic speculation thus pointed to how Beyoncé’s new hair care video for Jay-Z is hitting two birds with one stone, selling a product and defending the authenticity of his hair.
Jay-Z’s personal hairstylists, meanwhile, have denied the rumors, confirming that his hair is natural. And while many critics don’t buy it and remain unconvinced, some also called them out for being bitter, with comments like, “Some of y’all in these comments are just gonna be bitter forever. Why all the unnecessary hate about hair?” though others continue to mock the couple, “Performative AF!! the people not buying this BS no more. Real or not. The jig is up and that’s my opinion,”
