Contrary to the Master Collection, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater is a remake, and you know what that means: changes. This might make some players skeptical, as they often don’t want to see a gaming gem modified in any way. However, from what we’ve seen, Konami is retaining what made the original entry so iconic while also adding many new quality-of-life updates and some highly requested gameplay features. If you’ve been out of the loop, here are some of the most significant changes coming to Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater.
1. Major Combat Improvements

We can all agree that, during its launch, the original Snake Eater was revolutionary in every way you look at it. However, while its story and style have aged well, combat hasn’t. For that reason, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater is changing some of the things that might make combat feel dated. For starters, there’s a proper over-the-shoulder aiming system and new CQC movements to make the game feel more modern. You’ll even be able to use some moves similar to those in Phantom Pain, which will make traversal and fighting much easier.
2. New Additions to Stealth

Just like combat, some stealth mechanics haven’t aged well, especially if you look at some of the more modern MGS games. Fortunately, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater is changing how stealth works, too. While the core mechanics remain untouched, Snake will be able to enter cover just by approaching a suitable surface. On top of that, you can say goodbye to the first-person camera to zoom in, as you’ll be able to do it from anywhere, just like in Phantom Pain. This will make sneaking around more immersive and less of a hassle for new players.
3. Easier Codec and Camouflage Menus

Whether it was a design choice or hardware limitations, the original Snake Eater required us to navigate multiple menus to equip our camouflage or radio some of our allies. Delta will shake things up by making these two menus way more accessible. You’ll now be able to speak with your allies more easily with a radial menu of sorts, and camouflage can be changed on the fly without opening a lot of screens. This is going to be extremely useful and one of the best additions to this remake.
4. No More Stopping When Listening to Comms

While we’re on the topic of radio changes, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater will allow you to listen to comms even when you’re moving. In the original game, you had to stop to listen to your allies or anything on the radio. Many rolled with the idea, and at the time, it was fine, but it makes more sense that Snake listens to radio conversations while sneaking around or just going from one point to another. It is a minor change, but one that will make things feel way more realistic.
5. Two Different Playstyles

Since Konami is remaining faithful to the original title, it will allow players to choose between modern controls, more akin to Phantom Pain, and legacy ones, which resemble those of the original Snake Eater. This is amazing, as most players would like to experience this adventure with the same gameplay feel but with only the graphical changes, and that will be completely viable. It seems that you’d be able to change between the two modes on the fly, which is excellent in case you want to try both before deciding on a permanent one for your playthrough.
6. A Compass To Track Your Objectives

Many of us remember the immersion of not knowing where to go in the original Snake Eater. However, times have changed, and a compass or any other system to let us track objectives is almost necessary, and Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater is adding precisely that. The great thing about this is that the compass seems to be an equippable item, meaning that there will be some immersion behind it, as well as the option of turning it off for a more “old-school” feel.
7. Photo Mode

Last but not least, the remake will add a photo mode. It might not be the biggest feature for some, but it is an excellent addition and one that will work perfectly in this game’s setting. From what we’ve seen, Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater will boast gorgeous visuals, and capturing them outside of cutscenes in a more artistic way will be amazing. Plus, let’s face it: a lot of you are excited to use this photo mode around EVA, and we don’t judge at all.
