Pose star Billy Porter will play James Baldwin in an upcoming biopic. Byron Allen is an executive producer for the biopic under Allen Media Group. Porter and Dan McCabe are writing the script based on David Leeming’s 1994 book James Baldwin: A Biography. Leeming was an English at the University of Connecticut. The biopic is a dream for Porter since he has long since been an admirer of James Baldwin. “As a Black queer man on this planet with relative consciousness I find myself, like James Baldwin said, ‘in a rage all the time.’ I am because James was,” James said of the role. Along with Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group Carolyn Folks, Jennifer Lucas, Matthew Signer, and Chris Charalambous are producing the biopic. D.J. Gugenheim and Billy Porter of Incognegro are producing the James Baldwin biopic.
The Biopic is a Passion Project for Billy Porter
Billy Porter wants to give justice to James Baldwin’s legacy with the Allen Media Group biopic. Allen thinks that Porter and Dan McCabe are the perfect people to bring Baldwin’s story to life. Porter and McCab previously sold their TV idea Fruits of Thy Labor to Peacock. Porter is an accomplished actor, singer, writer, and director. He won an Emmy Award and a Grammy Award for his work. The actor has been in Cinderella, The Twilight Zone reboot, American Horror Story: Apocalypse, and narrated Equal. Billy Porter is a modern creative person that will bring life to the story of the Allen Media Group Motion Pictures James Baldwin biopic. He is deeply invested in the project since he’ll be behind the scenes and in front of the camera. Thankfully Allen Media Group backs Porter’s artistic vision for playing James Baldwin.
His work spans the stage, television, and film. This James Baldwin biopic would bring Porter further recognition as a screenwriter as well.
