DC announced a new Black Label Batman series that is taking it back to the caped crusader’s early days. The Bat-Man: First Knight is an upcoming three-issue series from Dan Jurgen and Mike Perkins. Together, the duo will weave a new story in the Dark Knight’s mythos that draws inspiration from some of his earlier cases. This marks Jurgen’s first time writing for DC’s Black Label imprint, the publisher’s way of telling mature stories featuring popular DC characters.
Black Label Batman Series
This new Black Label Batman series is taking readers to a Gotham City just after the end of the first World War. The Bat-Man: First Knight takes place in 1939 where a series of murders are plaguing the streets of Gotham. With a new vigilante, known as The Bat-Man, on the case it looks like the murderer won’t be around for long. However, this isn’t your average crime spree. All the perpetrators are men who died in the electric chair. Even more, The Bat-Man’s first encounter with these murderers leaves him almost defeated. Can he stop these guys or is the world changing too much for man with a cape?
Of course, The Bat-Man: First Knight is not the only Black Label Batman series making its debut next year. DC has already announced a few others in the works including Batman: Off World and Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham.
Previews And Peeks
DC recently revealed the main cover and some variants for the upcoming Black Label Batman series. The publisher also showed off some preview pages showing the 1939 Bat-Man in action. In the previews for The Bat-Man: First Knight we see two detectives working hard on the case. As both Bat-Man and the detectives work the case, their paths soon merge. Commissioner Gordon is soon visited by the Dark Knight who looks to be offering assistance with such a weird investigation.
The Bat-Man: First Knight #1 is on sale 3/5.
